Nonogram solver
Type the clues of any nonogram (also called griddlers, paint by numbers or hanjie) and press Solve. The solver finds the picture, checks whether it is the only answer, and tells you if the puzzle can be finished with logic alone or needs guessing. Everything runs in your browser.
How the solver works
It works the way a person does. For each row and column, it looks at every way the clue’s blocks could fit and marks the squares that are filled (or empty) in all of them. It repeats this until nothing changes. If squares are still unknown, the puzzle needs guessing: the solver then tries a square both ways and keeps going, counting answers until it finds a second one.
What the results mean
- Solved with logic alone: a good puzzle. Every square can be worked out without guessing.
- Unique, but needs guessing: there is one answer, but you have to try a square both ways somewhere.
- More than one answer: the clues fit more than one picture. The solver shows one of them.
- No answer: the clues contradict each other. Check for a typo.
